SOLAS VGM: Analysis to Help You Prepare
Broadcast: Tuesday, April 19, 2016
Duration: 8 minutes
The new Safety of Life at Sea Convention’s Verified Gross Mass (SOLAS VGM) requirements go into effect on July 1. Many uncertainties remain including what are countries’ implementation guidelines, what are the VGM cutoff times, and how will potential delays impact performance.
In fact, CargoSmart ran a survey for customers in February and March. 820 people responded and almost all of the respondents did not yet have a plan in place for how to comply. In terms of how to submit the VGM to ocean carriers, nearly 60% preferred to send the VGM to their carriers through the shipping instructions. And, more than two-thirds indicated that the extra process to provide the VGM will be the biggest challenge to comply.
Presenting highlights from the April issue of CargoSmart’s Innovating newsletter, this 8-minute webcast provides insights to consider as you prepare for the new requirements.
